For the 2025 edition of the Occitanie Exposciences, we have the honour of welcoming Lydie Lescarmontier, glaciologist and director of Antarctic actions at the NGO International Cryosphere Climate Initiative.

Graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure Agronomique in Toulouse in 2008, she completed a master's degree in meteorology, followed by a joint doctorate between Paul Sabatier University and the University of Tasmania, which she completed in 2012. Her doctoral research focuses on iceberg fracturing and calving processes in Antarctica.

From 2012 to 2016, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Australian National University in Canberra and conducted several scientific missions to monitor the evolution of the ice cap in the Antarctic Enderby Earth.

In 2018, driven by a passion for knowledge transmission, she turned to education and joined the Office for Climate Education in Paris, where she worked until 2023. Since then, she has held the position of Antarctic Director for the NGO International Cryosphere Climate Initiative, where she plays a central role in raising awareness and fighting for the protection of polar regions from climate change.

In 2021, Forbes distinguished her among the 40 most influential women, in recognition of her outstanding commitment to climate science. In 2023, she received the prestigious Knight of the National Order of Merit award, rewarding her outstanding contribution to research and awareness on climate issues.

Lydie Lescarmontier embodies a committed and accessible science, with the aim of raising awareness of the climate issues related to the cryosphere. Her exceptional journey and determination to protect our planet make her an inspiring sponsor for this new edition of the Occitanie Exposciences.

She will be present for the official visit of Exposciences 2025, where she will share her experiences, her discoveries, and her passion for polar regions with young people.
