From 27 May to 1 June 2025, four young Toulousans, aged 19 to 25, proudly represented Occitanie in Porto, Portugal, under the European Mobisciences programme (Erasmus +). Their destination: the Mostra Nacional de Ciência, a large gathering of young researchers, organized by the Fundaçao da Juventude.

Three Toulouse projects in honour

Four young students represented the region with three innovative projects. Elena Chalou and Wendeline Swart, members of the Veracruz association, presented an exciting study on biodiversity at the University of Toulouse campus, focusing in particular on the Bois de Pouciquot. Jason Tressières, also from Veracruz, unveiled Phylopédia, a website designed to facilitate the identification of species to better observe local fauna and flora. Finally, Julia Rinne, a volunteer at CIRASTI Occitanie, shared her podcast project Put your science down, produced in collaboration with Campus FM, which gives the floor to young people involved in science.

Scientific and intercultural immersion

During their week in Porto, young Occitans joined nearly 300 participants from all over Portugal, but also from several countries on international delegations. From 29 to 31 May, they were able to present their projects to the public, interact with other young researchers, discover inspiring initiatives, and live a beautiful intercultural adventure.

A European project for a citizen and open science

Mobisciences, carried in Occitanie by CIRASTI, is fully in line with the European Erasmus+ dynamic. The objective is to promote the mobility of young people around science, to encourage international meetings, and to encourage an open, citizen-based approach to science rooted in societal issues.
